Restoration of Denis Creek banks at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport
Notice of Determination
September 9, 2024 – ADM Aéroports de Montréal has determined that the proposed restoration of the banks of a section of Denis Creek at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects by applying the mitigation measures planned for the project.
This decision is based on the following factors:
- Mitigation measures that are technically and environmentally feasible listed below;
- Community knowledge;
- Knowledge and impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples.
The mitigation measures considered in this determination are as follows:
- Installation of a sediment barrier in the form of a mass of small caliber (50-150) clean stones, supplemented by the installation downstream of a filtering device of straw bales which will have to be regularly changed according to their clogging.
- Installation of sediment barriers parallel to the watercourse during excavation work.
- Use of light and tracked equipment.
- Delivery of materials away from the watercourse. Measures to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive plant species.
- Ensure that machinery used is clean and free of weeds or invasive plant species before being used on the job site.
- During periods of site inactivity, protect bare soil from erosion throughout the construction period.
Accordingly, ADM Aéroports de Montréal may exercise its powers to enable the project to be carried out.
