Cowessess 10 MW Solar Project

Cowessess has been able to secure a 10 MW solar set aside from First Nations Power Authority through their First Nations Opportunity Agreement with SaskPower.  As such, Cowessess will ultimately enterer in a 10 MW Power Purchase Agreement  with SaskPower.  This project will create a long term revenue stream for the community which helps the community achieve their goal of self sustainability.  The project will also bring ancillary economic benefits to the Cowessess First Nation and its members in in the form employment and subcontracting opportunities.

The proposed system will consist of approximately 35,000 400W bifacial solar panels with anti-glare coating, resulting in 14MW of Direct Current (DC) capacity. The panels are connected to 4 x 2.5MW inverters, that convert the electricity from DC to Alternating Current (AC) and transformers, that step the voltage up from 1,500V to 25kV. In the adjacent land to the north of the Site, Cowessess First Nations owns and operates an Enercon E-53 800kW wind turbine, a 500kW solar array, and a 400kWh SAFT lithium ion battery storage system.  The Project is expected to last for 35 years.
