Development of a market gardening perimeter – Public Comments Invited

 

July 17th, 2023 Global Affairs Canada must determine whether the proposed project Development of a market gardening perimeter, located in the region of Sedhiou in Senegal, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

 

To help inform this determination, Global Affairs Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. . All comments received will be considered public. Project Title: Development of a market gardening perimeter and five agricultural perimeters_Women, Agriculture and Resilience (FAR)

Summary of the Project: The Women, Agriculture and Resilience (FAR) project is funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and the "Société de coopération pour le développement international" (SOCODEVI). It aims to promote the socio-economic empowerment of women and young producers in irrigated rice, banana and market gardening. The development work involves: 1) in the Region of Sediou, the installation of a mini-drill and an irrigation system to promote the year-round development of a market garden owned by the "Association africaine de jeunesse agricole et culturelle" (AAJAC), and 2) in the Region of Tambacounda, the installation of a mini-drill, a solar pumping equipment, storage facilities and a 2-heactre Californian-type irrigation system.
