Dismantling the Southeast and Southwest Esplanade footbridges

Parks Canada would like to dismantle the Southeast and Southwest Esplanade footbridges. The purpose of the project is to remove the decks from both footbridges, remove the abutments from the Southeast footbridge, backfill the space under the footbridges and build a section of path on the embankment to maintain the bicycle link. For the Southeast Esplanade footbridge, the embankment will cover an area of approximately 63m2 and will be an extension of the rockfill bank already present on either side of the footbridge. For the Southwest Esplanade footbridge, the two existing slopes on the site will be connected by a new embankment.

The work is planned to be completed during the navigational off-season, when the canal's water level is lowered for the winter.
