Pembroke Bridge (YAR014) Replacement Project, Yarmouth County, NS

The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR) is proposing to replace the existing Pembroke Bridge in Yarmouth County, NS. The existing structure consists of two side-by-side asphalt coated steel pipes (approximately 1.8 m high by 1.3 m wide) with concrete box culvert ends that are surrounded by infill. NSTIR is proposing to remove and replace the structure and infill with a single span bridge. A temporary detour structure is not anticipated, and traffic will be detoured along existing roads.

Works below the ordinary high water mark will involve the removal of approximately 275 m2 of existing infrastructure, including steel pipes, concrete box culverts, timber crib, surrounding infill and a portion of the adjacent wharf. The new abutments and armourstone are anticipated to cover an area of approximately 585 m2 below the ordinary high water mark.

Above water works extending beyond the existing right-of-way will include the partial removal of approximately 24 m2 of the adjacent wharf and the placement of armourstone. Armourstone is anticipated to cover an area of approximately 188 m2 east and approximately 250 m2 west of the bridge, as well as the alteration of approximately 124 m2 of wetland (salt marsh) habitat.

Construction of the proposed Project is tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2021. The Project schedule and timelines are subject to funding and securing the relevant permits and approvals.
