Sandy Bay Lagoon Upgrade

A joint sewage lagoon upgrade is proposed to accomodate the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and the Northern Village of Sandy Bay. The current population of the community is in the order of 1500 people.  The lagoon upgrades will consist of a 7.45 ha. primary cell and a 223,600 cubic meter storage cell.  The existing two cell facultative lagoon will be converted to a single storage cell, with the existing effluent discharge location and path being utilized.


Latest update

November 9, 2023 - Indigenous Services Canada issued its notice of determination Notice of Determination for the Sandy Bay Lagoon (iaac-aeic.gc.ca) and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
