Sucker River Mithwayawikamik Wellbeing Center

Lac La Ronge Indian Band is proposing to construct the Sucker River Mithwayawikamik Wellbeing Centre which will offer a community-based gathering center to improve the quality of existing programs and create new programs. The Sucker River Well‑Being Centre will be a new two‑story community facility intended to support health, wellness, cultural programming, and administrative functions for the Sucker River community.

The project involves the construction of a multi‑use building, the main floor spanning 1265 sqm including a fitness area, large multipurpose space, youth centre and gathering rooms, cultural space, kitchen, and washrooms. An upper floor, spanning 413 sqm will accommodate administrative offices for 8-12 staff, soft rooms, and a resource area. The facility is intended as a long‑term community asset, designed to accommodate up to 300 people, community gatherings, wellness activities, and daily operations, with a reserved provision for future expansion should additional funding become available. The project will require connection to existing infrastructure, including power, water and communication services and the installation of new supporting infrastructure, including an on‑site generator and propane tanks, to ensure operational continuity.

Additional infrastructure is also considered for the project, including a closed garage for few vehicles. A separate meat preparation building is also proposed as part of the development.
