Groundside Roads Rehabilitation at Edmonton International Airport

February 5, 2024 –Edmonton Regional Airports Authority must decide whether the proposed Groundside Roads Rehabilitation Project located at the Edmonton International Airport is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Groundside Roads Project will rehabilitate existing infrastructure at the Edmonton International Airport. The scope includes but not limited to: earthworks, concrete removal and repaving. The forecasted total rehabilitation area is approximately 19,075 square meters with locations of work taking place at:

  1. 45th Ave between 31st Street and 36th Street
  2. 36th Street between 45th Ave and the Renaissance Hotel entrance
  3. 43rd Ave between 36th Street and 37th Street
  4. 37th Street between 43th Ave and the North Loading Dock

March 26, 2024 – Edmonton Regional Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Groundside Roads Rehabilitation project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Edmonton Regional Airport Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Edmonton Regional Airport Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
