Wood Buffalo National Park Moose Island Fire Guard Maintenance

Wood Buffalo National Park Fire operations is proposing to maintain the fire guard around trapper and traditional use cabins and other identified assets at Moose Island, WBNP. This guard was established in 2016 as a direct response to wildfire 2016WB008. This project will follow the 7 FireSmart Canada disciplines to provide a forest-fuel break to reduce the risk of wildfire to assets in the Moose Island area, as well as provide access for future fire operations as needed.


Latest update

March 31 2026 – Parks Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
