Development of behind quay 108

The Port of Quebec wants to develop the land behind quay 108 which will be dedicated to the storage of bulk and general merchandise. Port activities will be in continuity with what is already stored and transshipped on quays 101 to 107 in the Anse au Foulon sector. This project will resolve the problem of lack of space for the continuation of existing activities in the sector. It will also ensure the fluidity of traffic and access to platform 108, in particular by the addition of two new access paths. Currently, part is occupied by the operator Midatlantic Minerals Inc. which processes quartz as well as the operator QSL for the storage of containers and cargo. The Port also stores soil excavated over the years.

Specific objectives of the project:

1. Create a paved area mainly dedicated to the storage and transit of goods. This will accommodate general merchandise (containerized or not), equipment and de-icing salt. Service networks and dedicated traffic lanes will also be developed;
2. Develop this development so that it is versatile for other possible uses of the rear wharf in the coming years;
3. Optimize, in compliance with laws, regulations and good environmental practices, the use in the new development of land stored in piles, by limiting the costs relating to disposal off-site.

Main planned works:

1. New flexible surface platform covering an area of ??approximately 40,000 square meters, used for port operations, mainly as a storage and handling area for various materials;
2.  New soft surface access paths, integrated into the development of a storage area, around their perimeter including the edge of the wharf;
3. Site drainage collector network covering all areas included in the new development and those along the edge of the quay;
4. Rainwater treatment system to be integrated into the collector network;
5. New looped section of aqueduct;
6. New banks of electrical conduits and underground draft shafts;
7. New lighting network for the back of the platform.
