Chebucto Head MCTS Site Improvements

The planned Chebucto Head site improvements include the following components, to be carried out in the sequence listed.

  1. A waveguide bridge to support VHF waveguides (cables) will be constructed between the existing Eastlink tower and the existing equipment/generator building.  The existing VHF antennae will be moved on to the Eastlink tower.  The existing CCG-owned VHF tower will be removed.
  2. A new 80 ft radar tower will be constructed to support a new radar antenna.
  3. A new equipment building will be constructed adjacent to the new radar tower.  Electrical power for the new building will be supplied temporarily from the existing equipment/generator building.
  4. New radar equipment will be installed in the new equipment building and commissioned.  VHF waveguides from the Eastlink tower will be redirected into the new equipment building.  VHF transceivers and related equipment for the remote operation of the site will be installed and commissioned in the new equipment building.
  5. After all MCTS services are operating in the new equipment building, the old radar tower will be removed.
  6. A new generator building will be constructed at the location of the old radar tower.  It will be used to permanently supply electrical power to the new equipment building and will include an emergency backup diesel generator.
