Tufts Cove Generation Station Rock Revetment Project

Nova Scotia Power Incorporated (NSPI) is planning to do a project at the Tufts Cove Generating Station (TUC) in October 2026 which will involve the installation of a rock revetment in the Halifax harbour along an 80 m stretch in front of the generating station. The revetment is required in order to stabilize this section of shoreline. TUC is built on an infill supported by steel sheet pile (SSP) retaining structures which are steel cylinders packed with infill used to dam the TUC property from the harbour. The SSP structures have become deteriorated over time as shown in the figure below, and work is required to address the structural integrity of the shoreline. NSPI is proposing leaving the sheet piles in place and adding a sloped rock revetment and retaining wall. One of the cooling water intakes for TUC is located in the project area and will be extended as part of the project and the rock revetment built around it. The rock revetment will be 80 m long by 20 m wide with a total underwater footprint estimate of 1790 m2
