Atikameksheng By-Pass Road Construction - additional Federal Authority

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is making this determination in addition to the Notice of Determination that was posted by Infrastructure Canada July 26, 2022 (Reference Number 80738) because ECCC has become a Federal Authority due to the need to issue a permit under s.73 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) for potential impacts to maternity roosting bats and Blanding's Turtle individuals.

The Project involves the construction of approximately 5 kilometres of a new by-pass road (approximately 3 kilometres of gravel and 2 kilometres of asphalt overlay) through undisturbed rock and forest. The Project scope will include the construction of an arched culvert to cross a wetland area along new road. The construction of the by-pass road will be an alternative travel route for improved safety of residents and improves access to the community. It will also improve road access and will foster economic development for the First Nations.
