Whitefish River First Nation - Waste Transfer Station Construction and Landfill Closure

Whitefish River First Nation is proposing the construction of a waste transfer station and closure of the existing landfill. The landfill received interim cover material but requires a long-term closure system. An interim transfer station was established following the termination of landfill operations and is currently being used for waste that is not collected at households and community buildings. After the construction of the new transfer station, the existing landfill and interim transfer station will be decommissioned.

The proposed waste transfer station will be developed approximately 50m west of the existing interim transfer station and will include solid waste binds, recycling bins, sea containers, and a prefabricated metal  building to act as a site office and equipment storage. Physical activities will include tree clearing, grubbing, installation of the transfer station infrastructure, decommissioning of the interim transfer station, and closure of the existing landfill.
