Smoky River Wind Project

ABO Wind Canada Ltd. is proposing the construction and operation of the Smoky River Wind Project, a series of new wind turbines located within the Municipal District of Smoky River, between Nampa and Falher, Alberta. As proposed, the project would include up to 27 wind turbines with a hub height of around 120 metres and a blade length of about 90 metres. Each turbine would have a production capacity of up to 7.2 megawatts for a total expected production capacity of 160 megawatts. The project footprint would cover about 2,833 hectares of privately-owned land.

Latest update

September 17, 2024 — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change has responded that the Smoky River Wind Project proposed by ABO Wind Canada Ltd. does not warrant designation under the amended Impact Assessment Act that came into force on June 20, 2024. The reasons are provided in the Minister’s response.
